Young’s Locker is located north of Danville, on Ohio 514. Young’s Locker has been processing meat since 1945. It was originally established by Russell Young, who worked in the business until 1968.

In 1952, Lawrence Payne, Russell’s son-in-law, started working at the plant and took over the business in 1968. Larry Payne Jr. started working in 1968 and still runs the business today.

His brother, Gary, worked at the plant for 30 years; his youngest brother, Dennis, worked at the plant for 10 years; and sister, Chris, worked at the plant part-time while she was in high school.

Young’s Locker continues to be a family operation with Larry Jr’s wife, Laura, keeping the books, and his youngest son, Travis Payne, running the kill floor.

Over the years, Young’s Locker has been expanded multiple times. In 1950, they added on a processing room, cooler, and the apartment above the store front (where Russ and Cora lived). In 1973, they added a cooler on the kill floor.

In 1976, a freezer was added to the processing room. Finally in 1979, a cured meat cooler and the smokehouse were added.
